Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt has announced the addition of Egon Samaai as the Flames' volunteer assistant coach.
Samaai enjoyed a successful playing career for the Flames from 2012-16 and served as a volunteer assistant for the team in spring 2017. In his role, Samaai will provide assistance to the program's coaching and administrative operations.
"It's an honor to have Egon join our team. He loves the game, is hungry to coach, and he is an outstanding model of servant leadership," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt. "As a Liberty alum, Egon is passionate about building something special with Flames tennis."

Samaai compiled 74 singles victories in his four-year career at Liberty, which is tied for the most in program history. He also racked up 76 doubles triumphs (No. 3 in Flames' history) and was named to the Big South All-Conference Doubles team in both 2013 and 2014.
As a senior, the Cape Town, South Africa, native served as a team captain and captured a singles crown at the Wake Forest Invitational. During his junior campaign, Samaai was tabbed Big South Player of the Week three times and earned ECAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors once.
Samaai made an immediate impact during his first two years at Liberty. He was declared a Big South flight winner at the No. 1 doubles position as a freshman and was the Big South No. 1 doubles leader with teammate Dillon Segur as a sophomore.
Samaai earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from Liberty in 2016. He is pursuing a Master of Science degree in Sport Management and expects to complete it in December 2018.
