PALATINE, Ill. – At last night's Harper College Fall Sports Banquet, the Harper College men's soccer team recognized five of their players who received postseason awards, highlighted by forward Ryan Murphy(Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) being named First Team All-Region. Coach Jason Diebold's team went 3-9 in 2013 and lost a hard-fought 2-0 game at Triton on Oct. 23 to end the season.

Murphy was second on the team with six goals in 12 games and also had three assists. Midfielders Luis Vargas(Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Starsky Correa (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) were named First Team All-Conference. Vargas tallied three assists in a game against Milwaukee on Sept. 11 while Correa helped guide the offense with a team-high four assists in 2013. Correa was also named Team MVP by his teammates.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Cox (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) was named Second Team All-Conference for the Hawks. Cox started 10 of the team's 12 games this year. Defender Eric Ayala (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) also earned Second Team All-Conference honors.

While the season did not go as planned in terms of wins of losses, Diebold liked what he saw from his group.

"We had 40 guys come out for the team, making our roster decisions tough," he said at the banquet. "The commitment from these guys was definitely there. We have a strong group of freshman coming back."
