PALATINE, Ill. – The moustaches finally came off for the Harper baseball program in early December. After frightening their family, friends and peers with facial hair for the entire month of November, the players, coaches, and alumni raised $1,772 for Movember to promote prostate and testicular cancer awareness as well as men's mental health awareness.
Freshman catcher Grant Meranus was the leading donation recipient, bringing in $907.04 for Movember.
"Final Movember a Donation total: $907! Thanks to all that helped! #proud @Harper_Baseball @HarperHawks," Meranus posted on his Twitter account on Dec. 9.
The program had 27 total participants and hopes to grow next year. Assistant coach and recruiting coordinatorTodd Zasadil came up with the idea. He stated the team's mission as," "We strive to be not only great students and athletes but great people. We feel it is important to be involved in the community and promote mens health. All the while having fun doing it."
