PALATINE, Ill. – A cold shooting night for the Harper College women's basketball team led to a 61-47 defeat at the hands of Oakton Community College Tuesday night at the Wellness & Sports Center.
Harper (2-10) shot just 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the floor in the loss.
The Hawks took a 6-2 lead in the early going on four points from Rachel Payne (Wheeling, Ill./Schaumburg Christian Academy) (game-high 18 points, 10 rebounds), but Oakton responded with a 14-0 run to take control.
Harper slowly climbed back in the first half and tied it at 23-23 with 1:07 to play on a Payne basket. The Raiders scored the final four points of the half to take a 27-23 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Hawks kept it close and trailed only by three at 37-34 after a Monica Hinderer (Arlington Heights, Ill./The Willows Academy) steal and basket. However, the Raiders slowly widened the gap over the next several minutes, going on an 18-5 run punctuated by three straight Sharee Greenlee (15 points) baskets to open up a 16-point advantage.
For Harper, Hinderer recorded another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Shante Hill (/Hoffman Estates) scored 10 points. Jasmine Gray scored 15 points for Oakton.
