Hawks Tripped up by Madison

PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's basketball team ran into a high-powered Madison attack last night, losing 100-58.

The Hawks (3-16, 0-7 N4C) trailed from the opening tip. Rachel Payne (Wheeling, Ill./Schaumburg Christian Academy) and Ashley Packard (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove ) (nine points) hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Madison lead to 25-21, but the WolfPack closed the half on a 24-12 run to take a 49-33 lead into the break.

Madison (15-6, 6-1 N4C) opened the second half on an 11-2 run and never looked back.

Rachel Payne (Wheeling, Ill./Schaumburg Christian Academy) filled the stat sheet for Harper, scoring 19 points with seven rebounds and seven assists. Monica Hinderer (Arlington Heights, Ill./The Willows Academy) fouled out with 9:28 to play but still managed 17 points and eight rebounds.

Six WolfPack scored in double figures, led by Kelly Calhoun and Gabrielle Hood with 16 points apiece. Calhoun nearly had a triple double as she had nine rebounds and 11 assists.

The Hawks are back on the court Saturday night for a 5 PM tip with Joliet (8-13, 3-3 N4C) inside the Wellness & Sports Center.
