Coming off a strong start to her 2017 spring season, Liberty women's tennis player Evangeline Crist has been selected as the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Crist won three of her four matches last week. She was victorious in singles against ETSU's Yi Chi Ma (6-4, 6-2) to help give Liberty a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the visiting Bucs in Lynchburg, Saturday.
On Sunday at Louisville, Crist teamed up with Anna Dollar to win at No. 2 doubles. The victory was the duo's 10th as a pair in the 2016-17 season. Crist also scored a point in singles for Liberty, as she bested the Cardinals' Olivia Boesing in a three-set tiebreaker (6-7 (3), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7)) for her 56th career singles victory as a Lady Flame.
Crist was selected as the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday. |
"Evangeline showed a lot of poise this weekend against ETSU and Louisville," stated Liberty Head Women's Tennis Coach Jeff Maren. "She didn't beat herself, made good decisions, and was mentally strong throughout. I'm proud of how our captain is leading the way, both on and off the court!"
Crist and the Lady Flames (2-1) return to action at Wake Forest (6-2) on Saturday (3 p.m.) and at Tennessee (7-1) on Sunday (3 p.m.).
