Women's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season With Strong Showing

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Harper College women's track and field team opened their outdoor season with a strong showing on a chilly day at the Augustana Early Spring Opener. Two Harper athletes set national-qualifying marks and the 3200m relay group qualified for nationals as well.

Sprinter Stephanie Hurwitz (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Fremd) set a PR in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.56 seconds (second place) to qualify for nationals. Hurwitz also took second place in the 200-meter dash in 28.62 seconds. Fellow teammate Taylor LoCoco (/Prairie Ridge) was not far behind with a time of 29.98 seconds. Distance runner Lori Delfin (/Wheeling) ran a 5:37.21 in the 1500-meter run to qualify for nationals.

The 3200m relay squad of Kaila Privatsky (/Barrington), Delfin, Marisa Andreuccetti (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) and Mary Piltaver (/Conant) posted a time of 11:51.14 to earn a trip to nationals. Piltaver also PR-ed at 1500 meters, crossing the finish line in 5:57.28.

In the field events, Amanda Hagen (/Hoffman Estates) captured top honors in the javelin with a throw of 77' 7".

The Hawks took second place as a team with 115 points. Augustana took top team honors with 152 points. Ashford University (102 points) and St. Ambrose University (46 points) finished third and fourth place, respectively.

Harper is back in action this upcoming Saturday at the College of DuPage Invite.
