Hawks Take Top Honors at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. – In a final tune-up before the national meet, the Harper men's track and field team took first place out of seven schools at the Carroll University Pioneer Invitational on Saturday. Daniel Lim (Schaumburg, Ill./Streamwood) and Ernest Downing () set PR's in the 110-meter hurdles, and several other Harper athletes earned big points for the team.

The Hawks scored 139 points to edge host Carroll, who scored 134 points. Beloit College took third place with 89 points.

Lim (15.74 seconds) and Downing (15.81 seconds) achieved their best times of the season while placing second and third place.  Downing also took first in the long jump.

Other first place finishers included Tom Rohn (/Cary) in the 400m, Zach Stella (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) in the 800m and Will Botefuhr (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) in the hammer throw. Juan Barajas (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) captured third place in the 1500m while Nick Modlin (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) and Andrew Guibord (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) took second and third place in the 3000m steeplechase. Thrower Brad Walls (/Palatine) took third place in both the hammer throw and shot put.

Harper departs Tuesday for the NJCAA Division III Track and Field National Championship in Utica, N.Y.  The meet is hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College and runs from May 8-10. Stay tuned for a preview of nationals.
