Lady Flames Place 17 on BIG EAST All-Academic Team

The Liberty field hockey team placed 17 student-athletes on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Seventeen Liberty field hockey student-athletes achieved BIG EAST All-Academic Team status.
To be eligible for the honor, nominees must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work.
Liberty's honorees include nine freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors and three seniors. In total, 140 student-athletes from the BIG EAST's eight field hockey squads were represented on the all-academic team.
The Lady Flames enjoyed a successful year on the field, as well, finishing runner-up in both regular-season play and at the 2016 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship in their inaugural season in the league.
Overall, 2,501 student-athletes across 22 sports earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team accolades during the 2016-17 academic year, the most in the four years since conference realignment.
