PALATINE, Ill. – Former Harper volleyball standout Alex Messner (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Fremd) is currently taking classes at Chicago State University, and in the fall she will take to the volleyball court for the Cougars. Messner recently signed to play volleyball for the NCAA Div. I program.
After transferring from DePauw University to Harper College, Messner blossomed into a star for the Hawks and earned All-Conference honors. She put down 346 kills and recorded 474 digs in the fall of 2013, both second-best on the team for a Harper squad that finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation and came up just three points shy of a bid to nationals.
"She was very good in clutch situations and had the ability to raise Harper's skill level to defeat top-notch teams," said her former coach, Harper head coach Bob Vilsoet. "We beat two NJCAA Div. I teams this year with her on the court, and these were teams in the past we didn't compete with favorably."
The Cougars are members of the Western Athletic Conference and are coached by second year head coachToby Rens. Other teams in the conference include New Mexico State, Bakersfield, Idaho, Utah Valley, Kansas City, Seattle U, Grand Canyon and Texas-Pan American.
Messner is a part of a four-player recruiting class for the Cougars. To view the full press release from Chicago State, click here.
