Liberty Upended, 16-10, at George Mason

The Liberty women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-10 decision at George Mason, Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.
The Lady Flames (1-6) had eight different players enter the scoring column led by Grace Fletcher and Brianna McCaffrey with two goals each.
Fletcher scored two goals at George Mason on Saturday.
On George Mason's end, the Patriots (2-2) came into the game converting just 16.7 percent of their free position attempts and buried 7-of-10 attempts on the afternoon. Chachi Kelehan paced the George Masson offense with a game-high five goals, while Brooke Lorber and Alexa McGovern scored three goals apiece.
The hosts wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring twice (Kelehan, McGovern) in the game's first 2:08 to take an early 2-0 lead. Liberty answered with back-to-back goals from freshman Carly White, her second of the year, and Fletcher to tie it up at 2-2 less than five minutes into the contest.
Over the next 15 minutes, the Patriots went on a 4-1 run, spotlighted by two tallies from Kelehan and goals from Lorber and Lobaccaro, to go ahead 6-3.
Hannah Quast brought the Lady Flames back within two (6-4) with 7:37 remaining in the opening half. Following a George Mason turnover, Ashlyn Altieri fed a long pass ahead to McCaffrey, who scooped the ball up and found Fletcher. Fletcher sent a pass to Quast, who beat George Mason goalkeeper Elizabeth Benedetto for her eighth goal of 2017.
Just over a minute later, senior Courtney Brown scored from the left side, her fifth of the season, to bring Liberty to within one at 6-5 with 6:26 left in the first stanza.
George Mason's Lorber scored the final goal of the half with 5:01 remaining, giving the Patriots a 7-5 lead over the Lady Flames at the break.
The home side opened the second half with goals from Kelehan and Lobaccaro in the first 3 and a half minutes to seize a 9-5 advantage.
Liberty redshirt sophomore Paige Britton scored on a 2-on-1 opportunity for her fourth of the year, to trim the lead to 9-6. The Patriots responded with three unanswered goals, capped off by Hailey Johnson's lone goal of the day, to surge ahead, 12-6, with 19:23 remaining.
The Lady Flames responded with a 4-1 run of their own over the next 7:55 to get back into the game. Fletcher scored on a free-position attempt, her fourth of 2017, with 17:54 remaining.
On the ensuing possession White won a draw control and fed a pass ahead to Quast. Quast raced ahead inside the George Mason eight-meter arc and found McCaffrey uncovered in the middle. McCaffrey ripped a shot into the back of the frame, making it 12-8 with 17:37 left.
The Patriots' McGovern's third goal of the day pushed the George Mason lead back to five with 11:44 remaining. However, Liberty's Jenna Joyal and McCaffrey struck with goals just 15 seconds apart from each other to bring the Patriots' lead down to 13-10 with 10:28 left.
Joyal's goal came from the right side on a pass from Foster, while McCaffrey's was unassisted.
The Lady Flames only managed one shot and surrendered three George Mason goals (Lorber, Hannah Warpinski and Taylor Altomare) over the final 10:28 to settle the final score at 16-10.
Tarris (1-4) was credited the loss for Liberty, yielding 15 goals while making seven saves in 58:04 in net. Benedetto (2-2) collected her second win of the season, surrendering 10 goals and making seven saves in 57:11 of action.
George Mason held the edge in shots (28-21), shots on goal (23-17) and ground balls (22-21). Individually, Warpinski scooped up a game-best seven ground balls for the Patriots, while Liberty senior Victoria Tickle collected a team-best four. The Lady Flames' Altieri collected three ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers.
The Lady Flames will be back in action Monday night under the lights of Joe Walton Stadium at Robert Morris (3-4). Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa.
