Hawks 2-1 to Start 2013 Season

PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's soccer team is off to a 2-1 start in the 2013 season. The Hawks picked up wins over Milwaukee Area Technical College and Century College before falling to No. 5 Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

Game 1 Recap

In their opener on Sept. 11, the Hawks beat Milwaukee 7-3 behind a strong six-goal performance in the second half. In the first half, Jessica Cosentino (/Bartlett) scored Harper's first goal of the season in the 44th minute on a feed from Jillian Zelek (/Elk Grove) to nod the score at 1-1.

The Hawks came out strong in the second half, as Nicolette Kruczek (/Wauconda) scored an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, followed by an unassisted goal from Zelek in the 55th minute. Kruczek struck again in the 60thminute for another goal, and she scored a final time in the 75th minute to give her a hat trick.

Vanessa Salazar (/Proviso West) and Stephanie Hurwitz (/Fremd) added late goals for the Hawks, who outshot the Stormers 20-7 in the game.

Four Hawks players spent time in goal, including Amanda Hagen (/Hoffman Estates)Lacey Richards (/Merrillville), Kruczek, and Hurwitz.

Game 2 Recap

The Hawks traveled to Minnesota to take on Century College on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kruczek scored two goals, her fourth and fifth of the season, to lead Harper to a 3-1 win over Century. Katherine Milla (Honduras/CEAD Christian School) and Maria Garduno (/Aspira Early College) assisted Kruczek on the goals.

Zelek scored her second goal of the season and recorded an assist. Kruczek and Hagen spent time in goal for the Hawks.
Game 3 Recap

On Sunday, Sept. 15 the Hawks fell 9-0 to No. 5 Anoka-Ramsey. Hagen made 17 saves in goal for Harper.

Upcoming

The game yesterday against College of DuPage was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 4:00 PM.

Up next, the Hawks take on No. 6 Rochester Community and Technical College at home on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
