PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper baseball team recently had five players selected to the All-Region Team. Kurt Becker (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Mickey Wazorick (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows) received First Team All-Region honors, while Theo Yfantis (Prospect Heights, Ill./Wheeling), James Ioriatti (/Hersey) and Brent Kiesel (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) garnered Second Team All-Region honors.
Becker
hit .494 with a .531 OBP, three homers, 30 RBIs, 79 hits, 15 doubles,
four triples and 14 stolen bases in 46 games. The standout sophomore was
also named N4C Conference MVP, First Team All-Conference, NJCAA Div. III Player of the Week and Harper College Athlete of the Week.
Wazorick, also a First Team All-Conference selection, won a team-high six games on the mound for the Hawks and posted a 6-2 record with a 4.47 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings.
Yfantis, also a First Team All-Conference
selection, batted .304 with two homers and a team-best 31 RBIs hitting
in the middle of the order. Ioriatti served as the team's primary
designated hitter, hitting .296 with 29 RBIs in 40 games.
Kiesel, a right-handed pitcher, compiled a 4-3 record, 4.70 ERA and one save in 46 innings for the Hawks.
"I'm
proud of the effort of all our players, but it is nice to see our
players recognized for their accomplishments on the field by the other
regional coaches," said Harper head coach Cliff Brown.
