PALATINE, Ill. – The
Harper College softball team recently had three players named to the
Region IV All-Region Team for their excellent performance in the 2014
softball season. Raegan Fingerman (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) and Lindsay Cannon (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) earned First Team All-Region distinctions, and Tori Liewergen (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) earned Second Team All-Region honors.
Fingerman
led the Hawks in hitting with a .466 to go along with four homers, a
team-best 38 RBIs, 41 hits, seven doubles and two triples in 26 games.
She also displayed her versatility in the field, playing catcher, first
base and shortstop during the season.
"She was a
fun-loving competitor who knew how serious to take the game as well as
keeping it in perspective," said Harper head coach Cray Allen.
Cannon
patrolled the outfield for Harper and grew as a hitter as the season
went on. She became the Hawks' primary leadoff hitter and was second on
the team with a .373 average and team-bests in both runs (37) and stolen
bases (10).
"She is a kid with very strong
character and helped shape our team not only from her skills on the
diamond, but from her overall personality and approach to the game,"
Allen said.
Liewergen served as the team's
primary pitcher, earning eight wins in 2014. The sophomore also made an
impact at the plate, hitting .337 with 20 RBIs.
"Tori solidified our pitching this year and was a big part of what we did this year. She was a true competitor," Allen said.
