Hawks Claim Third Place at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. – In a final tune-up before the national meet, the Harper women's track and field team took third place out of seven schools at the Carroll University Pioneer Invitational on Saturday. The 4x100m relay squad set a PR, sprinter Stephanie Hurwitz (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Fremd) set PR's in both of her individual events, and several throwers achieved their best throws of the season at the meet.

The 4x100m team of Hurwitz, Taylor LoCoco (/Prairie Ridge)Gabrielle Brosnan (Mount Prospect, Ill./Christian Liberty) and Lara Sladek (/St. Viator) set their PR, finishing the relay in a time of 53.20 seconds.  Hurwitz set PR's in both the 100m (13.19 seconds) and 200m (27.15 seconds), and Sladek also set a PR in the shot put with a toss of 9.68m.

Four Hawks recorded personal-bests in the javelin, led by Amanda Hagen (/Hoffman Estates) (24.99m) and Brosnan (20.39m). Anna Lanier (Dominican Republic/Home School) (19.60m) and Gabby Beaupre (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) (18.43m) also set new PR's.

Harper departs Tuesday for the NJCAA Division III Track and Field National Championship in Utica, N.Y.  The meet is hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College and runs from May 8-10. Stay tuned for a preview of nationals.
