PALATINE, Ill. – The
Harper College softball team earned a key conference sweep of visiting
Joliet on Thursday. On Friday, the Hawks dropped a pair of contests to
Moraine Valley.
Thursday vs. Joliet
In game one, Harper scored six runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-0 five-inning win over the Wolves. Raegan Fingerman (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) led the offense by going 3-for-3 with a homer.
Beth Petrunich (McHenry, Ill./McHenry East) went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Alexis Filler (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Jazlynn Skor (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Tori Liewergen (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) (4-6) pitched four scoreless innings for the win.
In
the second game, the Hawks held a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, but
the Wolves answered with two runs to tie the game. Fingerman's sacrifice
fly in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Hawks a lead, and they
held on for a 3-2 win.
Skor (2-1) pitched five innings for the win, and Liewergen preserved the win with two shutout innings.
Friday at Moraine Valley
Harper
fell into an early 8-0 deficit through two innings and lost 8-3.
Fingerman starred at the plate in the game, going 2-for-4 with a double
and two RBIs.
In game two, the Cyclones jumped
out to a 6-0 lead after an inning, but the Hawks scored six times in the
second inning to tie the game. Moraine Valley scored three times in the
second and went on to win 13-9.
For Harper, Liewergen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Fingerman had another productive game, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
The Week Ahead (12 Games)
The
Hawks play at Joliet on Monday. Harper hosts Triton on Tuesday and
travels to Triton on Wednesday. They play at Rock Valley on Thursday,
home against DuPage on Saturday and at DuPage on Sunday.
