Liberty men's tennis was topped, 6-1, by Valparaiso, Sunday at the Star Island Resort and Tennis Club.
The Flames' fourth consecutive loss drops them to 4-7 overall, while the Crusaders run their winning streak to 12 matches, improving to 13-1 overall with the win.
Valparaiso won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles match to take the doubles point. The Crusaders' top duo of Jeffrey Schorsch and Dave Bacalla bested the Flames' Alex Poynter and Diego Castano, 6-3. In the No. 2 match, Charlie Emhardt and Chad Kissell prevailed, 6-3 over Vince Salas and Eddie Gutierrez, giving Valparaiso a 1-0 lead.
In singles competition, Liberty's Salas was the lone Flame to win a singles match, which was the final match of the day to wrap up play. Salas dropped the first set, 6-0, to Charlie Emhardt but took the final two sets to emerge victorious, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Valparaiso won each of the other five singles matches in straight sets.
The No. 1 singles match was won by Schorsch over Gutierrez, 6-2, 6-3, giving the Crusaders a 2-0 edge. In the No. 6 position, Valparaiso's Brian Pecyna put the Crusaders ahead, 3-0, with a straight-sets (6-3, 6-2) triumph over the Flames' Max Borcuti.
The Crusaders received the match-clinching point out of the No. 4 spot from Dave Bacalla. Bacalla took down Liberty's Diego Castano, 6-2, 6-4.
Garrett Gardner and Chad Kissell gave Valparaiso their fifth and sixth points with victories. Gardner upended Poynter, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 5 match. Kissell won the first set over the Flames' Chase Burton in a tiebreaker before winning set two, 6-2, to take the match (7-6 (7-5), 6-2).

Liberty will be back in action on Monday at 11:30 a.m. against Farleigh Dickinson (3-4). Following Monday's match, the Flames will take on Fairfield (11:30 a.m.) and Saint Joseph's (7 p.m.) in a doubleheader, Wednesday.
