PALATINE, Ill. – Harper College wrestlers Jacob Bellis (/Bloomington), Blake Tisza (/Thornton Fractional South)and Blake Santi (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) nabbed individual championships at the Harper Open on Saturday.
Bellis dominated his opponents at 125 pounds, posting a 3-0 record on the day. He bested Triton's AJ Pascente 13-3 in the opening round and pinned Hannibal-LaGrange's Caleb McElfresh in a mere 55 seconds to set up a title showdown with Lincoln's Leslie Williams. Bellis earned a 6-2 win for his fourth individual title in a row.
After a first round bye, Tisza (141 pounds) picked up a 19-4 technical fall win over Lincoln's Enoch McCottrell to reach the championship match. It was there that he knocked off UW-Parkside's Shane Mcquade 8-4.
Santi, who was named Harper College Athlete of the Week on Friday, once again owned his competition on Saturday. He took down Triton's Stan Whiting in the first round, 16-1, and followed it up with a 16-0 victory over Lincoln's Graham Lough. Hannibal-LaGrange's Tyler Sonnabend was no match for Santi in the title match, as Santi won 12-4.
Other notables for the Hawks included trio of second place finishes from Lavontay Cobb (/King College Prep), Jon Arenas, and Jonathan Denikas (/Antioch) and third place finishes from Tyler Thomas (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Daniel Roach (/Portage).
