ROCKFORD, Ill. – After a four-game homestand, the Harper College women's basketball team travels to top-ranked Rock Valley tonight for a 5:30 PM tip. The Hawks (3-17, 0-8 N4C) lost 69-58 to Joliet on Saturday while the Golden Eagles (18-5, 8-0 N4C) defeated Wright 103-37 on Saturday to stay unbeaten in N4C play.
Last Meeting
Rock Valley beat Harper 93-44 in a game played on the campus of Judson University Jan. 11. Sam Rundblade led all scorers with 22 points while the Hawks' Rachel Payne (Wheeling, Ill./Schaumburg Christian Academy)scored 16 points.
Golden Eagles Streaking
The defending national champs have won seven straight games by an average of 40 points per game. In that stretch they have scored 80 or more points four times and have shot 50 percent or better three times.
Packard and Nagle Playing Well
For much of the season the Hawks have struggled to find scorers to complement Payne and star center Monica Hinderer (Arlington Heights, Ill./The Willows Academy) (21.2 PPG, 14.1 RPG). Ashley Packard (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove ) has filled that void in recent days, scoring 10.3 PPG and knocking down 15 3-pointers over her last six games. She scored a career-high 15 points on Saturday against Joliet.
While Mikayla Nagle (/Rolling Meadows)'s scoring over the last four games may not be eye-popping (5.8 PPG), she has provided a big boost on the glass, grabbing 35 rebounds (8.8 RPG) during that span, including a career-high 14 boards against Triton Jan. 25.
Rebounding, Turnover Battle
In the two teams' first meeting, the Golden Eagles outrebounded the Hawks 43-21. Harper also cannot afford to lose the turnover battle, which they did 27-13 in the first meeting.
