Big Night of College Hoops

Having one good college basketball game on per night is usually doable, but having two good games on is a little more rare.  Well, folks, are we in for a treat or what tonight? Three, count 'em, three big basketball games tonight between good basketball teams that all have conference title implications.  Let's take a look at each of them.

On ESPN at 6 p.m., we will see #12 Georgetown battle #2 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome in front of a home crowd of about 30,000 strong.  This is sure to be a great game as Syracuse has dominated all year long minus a loss at Notre Dame, and Georgetown in many ways has blossomed and surprised some people who were not picking them to be this good this year.  Fab Melo is in his second game back since being reinstated and look for him to have a big impact on the inside for the Orange.  Syracuse has so many guys that can hurt you, and their zone is pretty suffocating.  Clark and company will play the Cuse tough tonight, but I think Syracuse will find a way to win a close one.

It's amazing that two top ten teams will be playing on ESPN 2 tonight, but that's exactly what Kansas and Baylor will be doing at 6 p.m.  I am torn on this one because the game is in Waco.  Robinson and Taylor are playing great, but I think Acy and Jones III are hungry for a marquee win, especially on their home court.  I am going to pick the Bears in a close one.

This brings us to the Duke-UNC game in Chapel Hill.  This storied rivalry always is special and has brought many great moments to college basketball (stating the obvious).  The Dukies are in need of a win after a disappointing lose at Cameron Indoor to Miami of all teams.  They haven't lost back-to-back games in about three years, but this will be a very tall task to beat UNC on their home floor.  Despite losing Dexter Strickland to a torn ACL, UNC stills scores in bunches by running the floor and being relentless on the offensive glass.  UNC doesn't play a whole lot of defense for such a talented group, but I'm not sure if it'll matter in this one.  Duke needs Dawkins and Curry to get going from deep so they can start to work it inside.  I see UNC pulling out the win in this game, but I think it will be very close.

Enjoy the games tonight because nights like these are very rare.
